massage what is it and why we need it ?
As a licensed massage therapist now going on 5 years I've blessed to be able to help all kinds of people with problems and chronic pain . Many ask why a massage ? Simple your body is a organic machine and if you keep it in tune it'll last you a lifetime . As humans we have the ability of healing ourselves called homeostasis , it's achieved when we are in the deepest of sleep r.e.m. to be exact . when this happens our body uses a filtration system that runs thru the muscles directly which passes thru metabolic waste and lactic acid . It's filtered out thru our sweat and urine . This is a very healthy and normal process but when our muscles are very tender and tense the tissue is very tough and doesn't allow this process to take place so what happens is that it stores underneath the tissue. this is reffered to as inflammation. When this happens our bodies feel numerous symptoms like aching , pain , and general discomfort. It can also cause headaches, fatigue, range of motion restrictions and sluggish performance. Unfortunately it does not go away on its own , good news is that's where massage therapy comes in .A deep tissue massage is a more in depth muscle work which helps tear and repair firm tissue into a more fluent relaxed state which allows the fluids to pass thru . Healthy inflammation rushes to the areas of the massaged tissue causing increased immune system response and recovery. The result your left with healthier tissue that is less prone to pain tension and restrictions. If range of motion is difficult or restricted I recommend a sports massage . A sports massage is a combination of deep tissue manipulation along with sports stretching. its great for athletes and active people that use their body's vigorously. It prevents injury and increases the bodies natural movements.
Soreness is actually part of the recovery process but rest assured it means the muscle was worked out and will repair itself. Always remember as a person receiving a massage your in control of the pressure so make sure you communicate with your therapist to avoid any unpleasant or unwanted extra soreness and know that working with your tolerance is all that's necessary. You know you body more than anyone else .
I hope this helps anyone seeking info and treatment, please feel free to contact me I'd love to answer any questions thank you and good luck on your journey to a new better you!!
